Carpet Cleaning Rates – Finding the Best Deal

Carpet cleaning rates will vary a great deal depending on the method, the company, and the part of the country in which you live. Generally speaking, privately owned companies will be less expensive than franchise operations, but this is not always the case. Many of the franchises will run specials for new customers, and while there are some things you need to watch out for with coupons or specials, they are often a good way to get your carpets cleaned.

Expect to pay on average 0.25 – 0.30 per square foot for cleaning without any type of special discount offer from the company. This means that for 1,000 square feet of carpet, the cleaning will cost $ 250 – $ 300. That price should include any pre-treatment needed, and may or may not include moving your furniture.

Do not fall for any ridiculously low carpet cleaning rates advertised as specials. To clean 1,000 square feet, the company will lose money at less than about $ 100. Offers that promise to clean your carpets for $ 6.95 per room are unrealistic. Either they are considering a room to comprise about 75 square feet or they are planning to sell you additional services once they are in your home. For example, the price may not include any pre-treatment, cleaning chemicals, or extraction. Furniture moving is probably not going to be included.

Carpet cleaning rates that quote a price per room or even square footage may not include stairs. There is usually an extra charge for them $ 2 of – $ 3 per stair. If there is a landing, there may be an additional charge for it.

Some of the companies that run specials will try to sell you a contract for additional cleanings. Typical contracts are for 3 – 4 cleanings over the next year at carpet cleaning rates that are very attractive. However, almost no home needs to have its carpets cleaned that frequently – once every year to year and a half is plenty – and it can actually be harmful to carpets to have them over-cleaned. Since you have to pre-pay for most of these contracts, you are also running the risk that the company will not be in business when you are ready for the next cleaning. Even if the company is still operating, they may have new owners who will not honor the contracts.

What are the Standard Carpet Cleaning Rates?

When you schedule an appointment, you need to ask the company to list all the features that are included in their carpet cleaning rates. Is pre-treatment of stains and heavily soiled traffic areas included? What about spot treatment of set-in stains? If you choose a shampoo method, does the price include a "defoamer" and extraction? Is furniture moving included? Does it cost extra for deodorizing treatments? When comparing carpet cleaning rates, be sure that you add up all the extra charges to get a true estimate on what it is going to cost.

You may also be able to reduce your carpet cleaning costs by having the company also perform other services while they are there. If you need to have your sofa or your duct work cleaned, see if the company also offers these services. Naturally, your total bill will increase, but the price you pay for each service should be less than if you had the company come out at different times to perform them.
