These are the necessary steps to be taken by a mold removal company to fix your mold problem.

Assessment for molds

Assessment of mold presence is the first step in solving this problem. This is done by visually observing the foundations and corners of the house or facility. This is a non-intrusive method. However, it can only distinguish visible and smelly molds. In some cases, a more intrusive method is needed. There is a need to move furniture, lifting or removing carpets, checking in between walls, opening walls and floor cavities, etc.

Attention should be given to the areas where there is water or moisture retention. This is the same to areas where previous water incident, flooding or leakage that has happened. The aim of assessment of mold presence is to locate mold growth indoors and know the correct remediation and prevention that should be given to arrest the problem. Careful and correct removal should be done to avoid further contamination.

Mold Sampling

Sampling should be made by a professional or a mold remediation company if needed be. Check if they have a specific certification or specialists (mold remove company) who have broad knowledge in handling the problem. The mold samplings main aim is to determine the mold spore concentration in the air and how much it can affect indoor air quality.

These are the different types of mold sampling:

-Air sampling – this is the most common type of sampling. Air samples are taken inside and outside of the house or facility to be compared. Using this technique can provide enough information on the existence of non-visible molds.

-Surface sampling – this type of sample gets specimen by swabbing on walls or surfaces of the house or building. Dusts particles can also be used as specimens.

-Bulk samples – this type of sample can be done by removing materials from the infected or contaminated area to know the concentration of mold in the specimen.

Mold Remediation

As what has been discussed earlier, determining the cause of mold is the first step in solving the problem. After assessing the extent of the mold problem, these necessary steps are taken. There should be enough sunlight and ventilation in the house or building affected. Chemicals can also be used. However, you should consult a mold remediation company to ensure that these molds don’t grow back.

Materials and appliances saturated by water affected by mold growth should also be discarded. In extreme cases, some contractors are able to repair mold damage. This can be done by getting rid of the affected areas and removing the cause of too much moisture or by structural drying. This is the most important part since dead molds can still affect humans or may grow again if proper measures are not taken.
