Starting a Professional Office Cleaning Service

Starting your own professional office cleaning service can be exciting but it can also be hard. There are many things to consider before you even sign up your first customer. Any new business is going to take a lot of hard work, commitment, and patience. It is going to take time to see a profit. You need to create a business plan that will detail all the things that a loan officer will need to know about your business when you apply for a start-up loan. Unless you are very rich you will need a start-up loan because there are supplies, tools, advertising, etc that you will need.

Arrange your finances

With most new businesses it will take months before you can see a profit and you will need money to pay any employees, buy supplies, gas for your vehicle, possibly buy a van or truck for your business to carry your supplies and tools, insurance, license, etc. You should have enough finances to last for at least six months or more. If you have a full time job, it is advisable to keep it and start your business part time in order to have job security.

Get a business account and name for your company

Make sure that you have a professional name for your office cleaning business. It will be your business identity so take time before you decide on a name. File your name with the proper authorities and incorporate your business. Make sure that you also open a business account at your bank so you will keep personal and business expenses separate.

Take an accounting class

You will be responsible for keeping your daily expenses and profits so if you have little or no accounting experience you should consider taking accounting classes, preferably business accounting. You will need to keep an inventory list so you do not run out of supplies. It will also be necessary to know how to do invoices so you can bill your clients on a monthly basis.

Arrange your inventory

You should have an area in your home in which to store your cleaning supplies. Visit different janitorial stores and ask for suggestions on which supplies you need. Most companies today use natural clean smelling cleaning supplies that have no chemicals. You will also need cards advertising your professional office cleaning business and separate business phone line.

Advertising

This is very important in order to get new clients when you are starting your new business. You can advertise in your local newspapers and start a website. You can also visit your local offices like doctor’s or dental offices, insurance offices, real estate offices. Hand them a business card and offer a first month discount for trying your services.
